My Change Catalyst:

Julia Child
Chef | Author | TV Personality

Julia Child created and starred in The French Chef, one of the first televised cooking shows in the United States. In her recipe books, Child painstakingly reinterpreted thousands of gourmet French dishes to match the tastes and capabilities of ‘average’ American cooks - all while maintaining the culinary integrity of the original French recipes. In my work at TSI, I try to emulate Child’s tenacious spirit, her ability to adapt a foundational methodology to meet people where they are, and her drive to turn something ‘scary’ or complex into something accessible, palatable, and inspiring.

    1. Listening is crucial - you can’t be a good consultant without listening to what, how, and why something is being said.

    2. Always follow up and always follow through - this is how you build credibility and trust, which is crucial for a consultant.

    3. Patience. Change can be challenging, especially when clients are burned out from day-to-day work. I combat pressure with patience - if the client feels you will meet them where they are, they’ll give you the trust and commitment you need to get them where they want to be.

  • To me, change is a big, fascinating puzzle. I looking at each puzzle piece from different points of view, making sense of all the inputs and outputs in a client ecosystem, and putting it all back together in a shape that makes the most sense for the client and their goals.

There’s nothing more satisfying than helping a client hit their targets, especially when you do it in an entirely different way than they thought possible.

  • My family had a vacation home in Cape Cod growing up, and we would visit every summer until I was in my twenties. So I have really strong childhood memories associated with that place.

I also love Greece, because that’s where I went on my honeymoon!

  • Favorite book: The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells. Such a good book about the ups and downs of three women in a life-long friendship.

Favorite movie: When Harry Met Sally. That movie epitomizes relationships. Take any romantic situation you can think of - Meg Ryan, Billy Crystal, and Nora Ephron probably have something to say about it.

Favorite TV show: West Wing. You can’t beat Aaron Sorkin writing banter, and all the actors in that show are just phenomenal.
